[Prairie_Beef] Carpenter layout

All -

Attached is a image of our farm, with a few fields marked off. The image
was created by John Murphy as part of our burn plan - but numbers the
fields well. Field #2 (both sides of the marked fence) and field #5 are
planned for a spring burn. Our house sight is just about where the "3" is
in field #3.

Sorry for the watermark, but that got the image down to ~100K from the
4.3mb e-mail blaster it was in its original PDF format.

For reference, we hayed the 11.5 acres in field #1 this year and have a
nice regrowth of CSG, along with 40 bales of fine hay. Alas, there is no
water access, yet, in field #1, although a pond is planned for the upper
half of the treed area along the south side of that field. This is a
slow-but-steady "trickle" spring that runs year round. Read something
about a CP22(?) program in, I think, a recent Missouri Conservationist,
that provided 90% cost share for development of this kind of water source
(actually, provides 90% cost share to keep my cattle OUT of the creek bed
- but thats functionally the same thing!).

Field #4 is good CSG (the "4" is hidden under the "d" in the Create"d"
watermark), and is most of field #3. Both have access to water, but we
need a couple of gates and a bit of fence to make that work right via the
freeze proof watering station off the pond there.

Current plans are to manage fields #2 & #5 for WSG via burns this spring,
and perhaps Roundup next winter to set the fescue back. The fields look
promising with a variety of WSG and Forbs competing pretty well with the
CSG.
